- Financing for Agricultural SMEs in Africa (FASA)OtherFASA (or “Financing for Agri-SMEs in Africa”) is a fund of funds which aims to unlock financing for agricultural Small and Medium Enterprises across Africa, by supporting investment funds that are active in the sector. FASA supports both emerging and established fund managers raising funds across any asset class, currency or region, provided they focus on Africa’s agricultural sector. FASA’s capital is therefore channelled to agri-SMEs in Africa through the investment funds. For each selected investment fund, FASA provides from $2M to $10M of subordinated capital, mainly in the form of junior equity, alongside capacity building and technical assistance. - African Risk Capacity (ARC)Climate FundThe African Risk Capacity (ARC) Group is a Specialized Agency of the African Union established to help African governments improve their capacities to better plan, prepare, and respond to extreme weather events and natural disasters. Through collaboration and innovative financing, the ARC Group enables countries to strengthen their disaster risk management systems and access rapid and predictable financing when disaster strikes to protect the food security and livelihoods of their vulnerable populations. - Climate Investor One (CIO)Climate FundClimate Investor One focuses on financing projects in low and lower middle income countries in the wind, solar, and hydro sectors with an average size of 25-75 MW or USD 80-100m in total investment cost. Climate Investor One consists of three stages: A Development Fund funded by non-repayable donor contributions would finance up to 50% of development costs for projects by private sector developers. Its specific aim would be to improve projects’ bankability from an early stage, which would include activities that projects often struggle to complete for lack of finance, such as help securing land titles and permits, concluding a power purchase agreement, conducting an environmental and social impact assessment, and reaching financial close by securing 100% of investment costs. The donor capital used to fund this stage would be converted to equity stakes for successful projects that would in turn be bought out by the Construction Finance Facility at commercial rates. In this way, the Development Facility would be an evergreen facility, recycling the returns made from the construction finance facility buy-outs to fund the development of subsequent new projects. A Construction Fund would provide up to 75% of investment costs on commercial terms to projects. - Climate Investor Two (CI2)Climate FundClimate Investor Two (CI2) is a blended finance facility, delivering water, sanitation, and oceans infrastructure projects in emerging markets. Established in 2019, the fund reached its third close on 2 November 2023 with USD 875 million in commitments and is targeting a final close of USD 1 billion by March 2025. CI2 employs a mix of public and private-sector funding as well as commitments from development finance institutions (DFIs), all in mutually beneficial and complementary ways. - Subnational Climate FundClimate FundThe Subnational Climate Fund (SCF) invests in mid-sized ($5-$75m USD) infrastructure projects, including sustainable energy, waste and sanitation, regenerative agriculture, and nature-based climate solutions. We partner primarily with subnational authorities to identify and implement these projects, financed with a blend of concessional and conventional capital, along with Technical Assistance grants that help mitigate risk and ensure financial and environmental goals are achieved. KIF offers risk capital and advice for climate projects in developing countries, the growth markets in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and parts of Europe. The fund invests in projects, which directly or indirectly contribute to reduction of the emission of greenhouse gasses. - Adaptation for Smallholder Agriculture Program (ASAP)Climate FundThe Adaptation for Smallholder Agriculture Programme is the International Fund for Agricultural Development’s (IFAD) main programme for channelling climate and environmental finance to smallholder farmers. The programme is incorporated into IFAD’s regular investment processes and is subject to rigorous quality control and supervision systems. Since starting its operations in 2012, ASAP funding in two distinct phases (ASAP1 and ASAP2) has received USD 300 million in contributions and has helped eight million vulnerable smallholders in 43 countries cope with the impact of climate change and build more resilient livelihoods. - Capacity-Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT)Climate FundGEF support for the Capacity-building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) was established shortly after the adoption of the Paris Agreement to provide quick-access support to countries and to boost their capacity to enhance the transparency of inventories and action as well as the transparency of support received. As such, the CBIT is a key channel of the GEF’s support for successfully implementing the Paris Agreement and its key pillars of transparency and accountability. It does so by enhancing institutional arrangements for climate transparency, strengthening national Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) systems, and informing NDC enhancement and decision-making. The Paris Agreement requested the GEF to support the establishment of the CBIT through voluntary contributions during GEF-6 and future replenishment cycles. Following the adoption of the Paris Agreement at UN Climate Change Conference COP21, the GEF established the CBIT Trust Fund in six months and began supporting national projects by COP22 thanks to high levels of donor support and successful engagement with countries and other key stakeholders. CBIT support is available to countries upon request and is provided in a timely manner. In GEF-8, the CBIT has been fully integrated into the climate change focal area’s strategy, with new CBIT projects now being supported directly by the GEF Trust Fund. - CIF - Forest Investment Program (FIP)Climate FundThe Forest Investment Program (FIP), is one of three targeted programs that make up the Strategic Climate Fund (SCF) of the Climate Investment Funds (CIFs). The FIP addresses the drivers of deforestation and forest degradation by supporting developing countries’ efforts to reduce deforestation and forest degradation (REDD), while promoting sustainable forest management. FIP provides financing to developing countries for developing institutional capacity, and for public and private investments that are identified through REDD readiness strategies. Along with supporting the public sector, FIP's Private Sector Set Asides (PSSAs) allocate concessional financing to projects that engage the private sector in sustainable forestry. The FIP’s Dedicated Grant Mechanism for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (DGM), is designed and led by representatives of indigenous peoples groups and local communities to set priorities and implement programs aimed at conserving their natural environment, and to enhance capacity in engaging with local, national, and international REDD+ dialogue and actions. - CIF - Scaling up Renewable Energy in Low Income Countries Program (SREP)Climate FundThe Scaling up Renewable Energy in Low Income Countries Program (SREP) is one of three targeted programs that make up the Strategic Climate Fund (SCF) of the Climate Investment Funds (CIFs). SREP empowers transformation in developing countries by demonstrating the economic, social and environmental viability of renewable energy. Channeled through five multilateral development banks (MDBs), SREP financing supports scaled-up deployment of renewable energy solutions to increase energy access and economic opportunities, with a focus on low-income countries. SREP also contains dedicated Private Sector Set Asides (PSSAs), which allow concessional financing to projects that engage the private sector. It has five objectives: Assist low income countries foster transformational change to low carbon pathways by exploiting renewable energy potential; Highlight economic, social and environmental co-benefits of renewable energy programs; Help scale up private sector investments to achieve SREP objectives; Enable blended financing from multiple sources to enable scaling up of renewable energy programs; and Facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange of international experience and lessons SREP’s targets include: Generating over 3 million MWh per year of renewable energy Improving access to energy for over 140,000 businesses and 17.3 million people Reducing 2.5 million tons of GHG per year.Concessional DebtDebtGrants
- CIF- Clean Technology Fund (CTF)Climate FundThe Clean Technology Fund (CTF) is part of the CIF, which were originally designed with a ‘sunset clause,’ stipulating that operations would wind down once a new financial architecture under the UNFCCC, such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF), became fully operational. The clause allows for any remaining CTF funds to be transferred to a fund with similar objectives. However, given ongoing demand, a strong implementation track record, and the complementary role of the CIF alongside the GCF, the CTF continues to operate with new programming approved by its governing body. As of now, there is no active plan to implement the sunset clause or transfer remaining funds. The CTF promotes scaled-up financing for the demonstration, deployment, and transfer of low-carbon technologies with strong potential for long-term greenhouse gas emissions reductions. We work with countries to mainstream DRM and climate adaptation into development planning, ensuring that disaster and climate resilience is embedded in policies, systems, and investments. Through grants, technical assistance, and partnerships, GFDRR enables transformative solutions that strengthen resilience at local, national, and regional levels. Through these actions, GFDRR supports countries to implement their commitments under the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Paris Agreement —including efforts to address Loss and Damage associated with the impacts of climate change. GFDRR is a global partnership managed by the World Bank that leverages the institution’s financial, technical, and policy expertise to help countries build disaster and climate resilience. As a multi-donor trust fund, GFDRR mobilizes grants from donor partners and channels them through World Bank teams to support countries’ projects and operations, amplifying the impact of development financing. - Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal ProtocolClimate FundThe Multilateral Fund was set up by the Parties to the Montreal Protocol to assist developing countries to comply with the terms of the Montreal Protocol, an international agreement that sets out a timetable for the phase-out of ODS in both developed and developing countries. The Multilateral Fund provides assistance to countries that are Parties to the Montreal Protocol and whose annual per capita consumption and production of CFCs and halons is less than 0.3 kg on the date of entry into force of the Montreal Protocol or any time thereafter until 1 January 1999. The developing countries that meet these criteria are referred to as Article 5 countries. Contributions to the Multilateral Fund are provided by the non-Article 5 countries. The Kigali Amendment, which was adopted at the Twenty-eighth Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (MOP) on 15 October 2016, added HFCs, non-ODS greenhouse gases that do not damage the ozone layer but have a high global-warming potential (GWP), to the list of substances controlled under the Protocol. The Kigali Amendment entered into force on 1 January 2019. As at 5 February 2020, it has been ratified by 93 Parties. The Montreal Protocol’s timetable for the phase-down of HFCs in both Article 5 and non-Article 5 countries is set out in Annex F of the Protocol. - NACAG - Nitric Acid Climate Action GroupGovernment AgencyThe long-term objective of Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG) is to incentivise the installation of effective N2O abatement technology in every nitric acid plant worldwide. NACAG’s vision is for the N2O emissions of an entire industrial sector to be mitigated on a global scale. The NACAG was launched by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) in order to increase mitigation action in the chemical industry. Considering technical and economic aspects, GHG abatement in the nitric acid sector is generally easy to implement and can be done at relatively low cost. This is the reason why this sector was chosen in the first place. The NACAG initiative offers financial and technical support to individual nitric acid plant operators until the end of 2023. While the technical support is available to all governments and nitric acid producers worldwide, the financial support is bound to the condition that the government of the country in which the plant is located commits to sustaining the emission abatement from year 2024 onwards. Support is available through grants and climate auctions. This support covers not only the procurement and installation of the abatement technology and monitoring equipment required, but also any necessary plant modifications and labour costs related to monitoring and maintenance.Grants

- The Carbon Initiative for Development (Ci-Dev)Climate FundThe Carbon Initiative for Development (Ci-Dev) is a World Bank trust fund that mobilizes private finance for clean energy access in low-income countries. It delivers results-based finance to innovative and transformative business models driven by the private sector. Ci-Dev comprises two reinforcing components, the Readiness Fund and the Carbon Fund. The Readiness Fund finances capacity building activities in least developed countries to develop standardized baselines and technical assistance for energy access programs. It supports the development of new methodologies and proposals for simplified Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) rules, and dissemination of results. Where needed, it also provides technical assistance to the projects and programs supported by the Carbon Fund.
